Creating A HAPPIER WORLD Day-by-Day

Volume 041
August 2017

I'm Back!

Hi everyone. For those of you who have been subscribers to the BeHappy! Newsletter for several years, you may have noticed that you haven’t received your bi-monthly edition from me in over a year. And, for those who subscribed within the past year (and even a bit longer), you have not received any newsletters yet.

That’s because I have not been writing much over the past year. In fact, the website hasn’t changed much either. Even my “BeHappy! Thought for the Day” has been more like the “BeHappy! Thought for the Week” (if that).

Here’s why:

Just before I was going to put out my scheduled newsletter in May last year (2016) my mother got very sick (my newsletter in March 2016 was about dealing with adversity and mentioned how my brother-in-law got killed in an accident shortly before, and then discussed the illness of my mother). Then, just two months later, in July, my mother died. We were on our boat in California for the summer (as we have done every year for the past 10 years) and had to fly home quickly. Fortunately, we got back to Florida a few hours before she died. It was a very difficult time.

Then, just a month later, in August, I got offered a great position as the CEO of a pharmaceutical company focused on cannabis (marijuana)-related therapies (Emerald Health Pharmaceuticals). Part of the company is based San Diego and part is based in Spain and so, for the past year, I have been going back and forth between Florida, California, and Spain, which in itself is quite intense. On top of that, the immense amount of work required to, first, learn all the details of a new company, and then manage all the operations of the new company are very demanding. So, bottom line, I just haven’t had the time or focus to keep up with this newsletter, or even the site.

So, for that, I apologize.

But I am back. While my position at Emerald is still very intense (and will remain that way, since it’s the “nature of the beast”), I am still also fully committed to my personal mission in life, which is to be a positive, creative force for health and happiness.

Since my role at Emerald fulfills part of that mission, I can’t promise I won’t miss a newsletter, some of the Thoughts for the Day, or Blog Posts, but I am committed to keeping the BeHappy101 site and my commitments to you (and myself) intact and valuable.

One thing I have been able to do over the past year is get even more in-depth and up-to-date knowledge about health and the prevention of disease. So, because of this, you will be seeing a lot more information about improvements to your health, how to live longer, feel better, and get off most prescription drugs you may be on. All of these things can help increase happiness, too.

So, once again, I apologize for my absence over the past year. Now, let’s get "back to basics" with the message for this newsletter edition…

What's New at

This is far beyond a “How To” concept. It is rather a “Do” system, which, when used in conjunction with the BeHappy! book and The Happiness Academy (coming later this year), helps create your own personal “Happiness Plan” for your life. If you want a template or “blueprint” for this Happiness Plan, click here and you can get it free.

Also, make sure to get my free “Happiness Formula” Video Course just by clicking on the link in the box above or just click here. It will change your whole perspective on happiness – and on life in general.

Since my goal is to help make people happier, though, it’s best to first get my book, BeHappy! to use along with the Happiness Plan template, the video course and the website to achieve maximum benefit (yes, that’s partly a sales pitch — but it’s true).

So, I'm making it a "no-brainer" for you to get

  • Norway is the happiest country in the world (according to the 2017 World Happiness Report). Denmark and Iceland came in number 2 and 3. The US came in #14 and Canada was #7.
  • Psychologists have discovered that low moods, or “states of mind,” are conditioned states caused by thoughts that repeat themselves in our minds, and that higher states such as love, gratitude, focus, contentment, and happiness in general, are natural unconditioned states of mind.

Follow Up from the Last Edition of
The BeHappy! Newsletter

Well, as I mentioned above, it has been over a year since the last edition of this newsletter. That edition was all about dealing with adversity, and one of the main ways to do that is to be grateful – truly grateful – for everything in our lives.

Are you grateful? Have you used the ways explained in the newsletter (and on the website) to make gratitude a big part of your life? If not, click here to learn more about gratitude.

For now, though, let's get to the topic for this edition...

Back to Basics: What is Happiness FOR YOU?

Since this is the first edition of the BeHappy! Newsletter in a while, I thought it would be best to get back to basics.

Since most people in our world are not truly happy (or at least not as happy as possible), I thought it would be good to get to the one of the fundamental reasons for this. That fundamental reason relates to the fact that, before we can be happy we must know what would make us happy. I call it our own personal “Definition of Happiness”.

Your Definition of Happiness is not a personal mission statement or declaration of your purpose in life. It is much more basic and self-focused. It simply means answering the question: what would make you a happy person if your life included everything in your personal Definition of Happiness? And there is no right or wrong definition. This is about you, your values, your passions, your purpose in life, and your identity. All these are key foundational parts of the "process" to true life-long happiness.

The main requirement is that your personal Definition of Happiness states your true feelings and includes everything required for you to be as happy as possible.

What It Takes...

Everyone has some idea of what it would take (the "criteria") for true happiness.

I have found that it is best to not have too many or too few criteria required for your happiness. For example, if you have only one criterion for happiness, and it doesn’t work out as planned, it will be unlikely that you’ll be able to be as happy as possible. So, for example, if your Definition of Happiness was simply to "become wealthy", you could never be truly happy if you didn’t become wealthy for some reason. This could be part of your definition, but it should not be your entire definition.

Similarly, if there are too many criteria for you to meet in your definition, it might be difficult to meet all the criteria and get them all aligned, so you will likely not achieve maximum happiness either.

I go through several chapters on how to create your personal Definition of Happiness in my book, BeHappy! (get a free autographed copy sent to your home or office by clicking here - and I'll send you two free ebooks as well).

Here are the basic guidelines for creating your personal Definition of Happiness:
  1. At least 3 and at most 5 criteria should be included in your definition
  2. Achieving each of these criteria should be at least partially within your control
  3. At least 2 of the criteria should be relatively easy to achieve
  4. Each criterion should motivate you and give you a positive feeling
So, for this edition of the newsletter, let’s get back to basics by finding out your real personal Definition of Happiness.

Go to the “Actions” section below to find out how to determine it for yourself so you can maximize your chances of being truly happy in life. You can also check out the "recommended reading" at the bottom of this newsletter. SO READ ON...

Like everything in life, the old saying, “practice makes perfect” also applies to happiness. By using the tools and concepts in the book, BeHappy! - and applying the principles found at and in this bi-monthly newsletter - you'll get the coaching and the “practice” you need to lead the happiest possible life.

It takes daily action to get “perfect” at it, though.

So, if you have read previous editions of The BeHappy! Newsletter you know that every issue provides some simple action-oriented exercises for the next two months (until the next edition of the newsletter) which relate to the main subject of this edition of the newsletter to help make happiness a habit.

Just a few minutes of focus every day and you’ll be laying the foundation for the happiest possible life - both for yourself and for those you love.

If you do these things, I can promise you’ll notice a big difference in the quality of your life.

You will BeHappy!

Actions for the next 60 days:

Take these actions over the next sixty days and by the time you receive the next edition of the BeHappy! Newsletter, you will have made great strides toward a happier, healthier, and more fulfilled life.

Actions to Take:

OK, here is what you need to do to establish your true Definition of Happiness.

1. Firstly, write down everything you can think of that you feel either makes you happy now or that could make you happy in the future if it was part of your life. As you contemplate your own requirements for happiness, consider questions like:

• Is money, wealth, or the things money can buy or do important?
• Is having a purpose or contributing something to the world a factor?
• Is happiness related to your children in some way?
• What role, if any, does personal growth play in your ability to be happy?
• What role, if any, does your career play in your ability to BeHappy!?
• Are relationships in general – or specific relationships - critical to your happiness?
• What about fun, variety, adventure, or travel?
• What are your talents and are you using them?

The most important thing about creating your definition is that it must be your definition. It must fit you and be meaningful to you. After you write something down, you should even feel some emotion when you read it (if it is truly part of your true Definition of Happiness), because once you have achieved a life totally consistent with your definition, nothing can make you unhappy, regardless of the difficulties and challenges you experience in your life.

2. Secondly, right now, get my Definition of Happiness Creator by clicking here or on the "Get Instant Access" button in the banner below (and I'll send you 2 great FREE ebooks as a gift from me). The Definition of Happiness Creator will guide you through a process that will help you determine what happiness really means to you. Then, once you have your definition, you’ll be ready to take the next steps to achieve a life a true and total happiness.

So, click on the "Get Instant Access" button below now...

That’s it for now. Do these two things and by the time you get your next edition of the newsletter, you will have a clear understanding of what will make you totally happy in life. With this, you can start to do whatever is necessary to create the life you need to be totally happy.
