INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this newsletter is to provide a regular and consistent supplement to the action-oriented process described on my website (www.behappy101.com) and in my first book, simply called BeHappy!

It is intended to make a powerful contribution to the amount of joy and fulfillment in your daily life by providing regular tools, reminders, and strategies to:

- Live everyday with more PASSION, JOY, and FULFILLMENT
- Create and maintain better, stronger, long-lasting RELATIONSHIPS
- More easily get through the TOUGH TIMES we all experience in life
- Live HEALTHIER — and even LIVE LONGER — with more VITALITY
- Be more SUCCESSFUL
- Raise HAPPIER CHILDREN
- And much, much more

This is far beyond a “How To” concept. It is rather a “Do” system, which, when used in conjunction with the BeHappy! book, helps create your own personal “Happiness Plan” for your life. If you want a template or “blueprint” for this Happiness Plan, Click here and you can get it free.

Since my goal is to help make people happier, however, it is best to get the book to achieve maximum benefit from the plan (yes, that’s partly a sales pitch—but it’s true). Click here to order your copy now.

So get started right away. Take action immediately. Go to behappy101.com and join the many people whose lives have been changed.

“The Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.”

HAPPINESS FACTS

- Although we have seen great advances in our world over the past 50 years, our “happiness” as people and a society has not increased

- The fastest growing segment of the anti-depressant market is pre-school kids (a terrible fact)

- The U.S. ranks #16 on the list of the happiest countries in the world – despite being one of the wealthiest

Goal Setting (A “New Years” Introduction)

What are your goals for this year? What about for 2010, 2015, and 2025?

Do you have some? If not, you should.

Why? …because goals create positive expectations for the future. And positive expectations for the future, something to look forward to, and/or the belief in your ability to create, do, or be something more than today are all effective happiness-builders.

Even better – having goals – and achieving those goals – allows us to actually create, do, or be something more than we have or are today – to improve our lives and the lives of others - which is a fundamental reason why there is innovation and progress in our world.

Whether your desire is to help people in need, create a multi-million dollar net worth, or become the leader of your country, it’s important to have goals. And you should have both short- and long-term goals. Short-term goals are goals for the next year or so and long-term goals cover the next decade or more.

Since it’s still early in the New Year, goals – and your own personal expectations for the future – are the primary focus of this edition of the BeHappy! Newsletter.

Go to the “Actions for the Next 60 Days” section of this newsletter to take the first steps toward achieving both your short- and long-term goals. And, make sure to go to the BeHappy! website (www.behappy101.com) for much more on this topic. There will be a comprehensive article out the first week of March which will open your eyes – and your mind – to the power and effectiveness of meaningful goals. Even though it’s February, it’s not too late to make 2009 great and the rest of your life outstanding by setting and achieving goals!

Goals help create positive expectations for the future – a key factor for living the happiest possible life

BeHappy!ACTIONS TO TAKE UNTIL THE NEXT ISSUE OF THIS NEWSLETTER

Like everything in life, the old saying, “practice makes perfect” applies to happiness, too. Using the tools and concepts in BeHappy and applying the principles on my website (www.behappy101.com) and in this quarterly newsletter will provide the coaching and the “practice” you need to lead the happiest possible life. It takes daily action to get “perfect” at it, though.

So every quarter in this section of the newsletter, I’ll provide some simple exercises for the next two months (until the next edition of the newsletter) which will help make happiness a habit.

Just a few minutes of focus every day or two and you’ll be laying the foundation for the happiest possible life. First, start with the actions for the next 30 days below. Don’t go on until you’ve got it done. Then, proceed to the actions for days 31-60 (or until the next edition of the newsletter comes out).

If you do these things, I can promise you’ll notice a big difference in the quality of your life.

You will BeHappy!

Now, let's break down the action steps into 30-day "chunks".

Actions for the next 30 days:

What do you want in your life? What’s missing right now? If there is nothing missing, you’re very fortunate. But even still, you need goals to BeHappy! (by creating positive expectations for the future). And if there are some things missing, are you taking action to change that?

If you already have goals for 2009, that’s great. Read them over. Make sure they: (1) compel you to take action and (2) create a better life for you and your loved ones if they are achieved. If they do, they are probably meaningful goals. If not, make sure to get them to comply with those two basic guidelines. Do that now, before going on.

Now, if you don’t have goals for 2009 yet (and especially if you are not in the habit of setting annual goals), start today – actually right now - by thinking about what’s important to you in your life this year. Is it making progress on financing your kids’ education? Or what about remodeling your house? Is it learning a new language or how to play a musical instrument? Could getting out of debt be an important accomplishment this year? Do you have some “luxury” goals, like getting a new yacht or a second home in the country or on the beach?

Whatever you consider as important life improvements could be the basis for some meaningful goals.

And the word meaningful is important because – if they are not meaningful, they will not be compelling enough to get you to focus sufficiently and take action towards achieving them. So, they will have a higher chance of never being achieved.

Since this is a newsletter, it is not intended to be a comprehensive goal-setting exercise, but rather a call to action for the next 60 days. There’s much more to all this than can be described here. This is just meant to give a brief introduction to the subject, stir your thinking, and help you take some preliminary steps. So over the next 30 days, here are the steps to take:

1. Add (if you don’t have) or expand/solidify (if you do) a regular goal-setting philosophy for your life

2. To start this, make a list of everything you want for your life – not only for 2009, but for the rest of your life

3. Now – whether you’ve just started this goal-setting process or you already have goals for this year and beyond - organize your list, first by identifying the highest priority achievements. Do this by putting the number ‘1’ next to the ones that are a “MUST” for you. Then, once you have all the #1 (“must”) desires identified, label the rest with either the number ‘2’ (if it is something you really “SHOULD” achieve or have in your life) or the number ‘3’ (if it is something that would just be “nice” to have or achieve in your life).

4. Finally, next to all the ones labeled with the number '1', put a time frame to each. In other words, a "by when" date. Use either 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, or 20 years as the basic time frames. Once you've done that, you can also put time frames on the number '2' and '3' "desires" as well.

This is the basic action plan for the next 30 days. Take your time. This is your life we’re talking about. Once you have your list, keep reviewing and refining it until it’s the way you want it. Then…

Actions for days 31 to 60:

By the time you receive the next BeHappy! Newsletter (around mid-April), the first quarter of the New Year will be behind us, so our goals for 2009 should be clear. Ideally, some action should have also already been taken toward achieving them – especially the highest priority ones.

Since this newsletter is about goals, though … and some people are just getting started on this topic through this newsletter, there is some “catch up” to do.

So during days 31-60 of this process, do the following:

-Focus only on the items you marked with the number ‘1’ on your list for now (the “musts”)

-Write down at least 3 actions you will take which will lead to achievement of these #1 priority desires (goals)

-Then, make sure to take those initial actions – whatever they are

These initial actions don’t have to be major. What’s most important is to just get started. Then, the process requires making this action-oriented process a habit.

The action you take could be just making a phone call. It could be buying that language or music book if your goal is to learn a new language or play a musical instrument. It could be attending a course on a subject of interest for a possible new career. It might be just telling someone else your goal(s) – since telling someone increases your chances of achieving a goal significantly.

You’ll find all this – and much more (and in much greater detail) – in the upcoming article on the website (again, coming out during the first week in March).

For now (and for this next 60-day period) just get the process started by following the steps provided here – in each of the two 30-day components. You’ll be on your way to a much better 2009 by the time the April edition of this newsletter arrives in your mailbox. You will have a list of goals and will have taken the preliminary actions towards achieving those goals.
